English Debating Workshop
During the period of 2 July to 5 July, 10 of us, namely F.2 to F.4 students, attended an English Debating Workshop – HKSDPSC’s Flashpoint at Homantin Government Secondary School. The workshop was held by Hong Kong Schools Debating and Public Speaking.

First, I am very grateful that my English teacher recommended me to participate in this English debating training program. In this program, we were divided into different groups by the teacher. Two trainers were in charge of each group. Luckily, the trainers who taught our group were very helpful and friendly. In spite of some topics or vocabulary that we were not familiar with, they made an effort to teach us one by one patiently with the aid of powerpoint slides.

Furthermore, we benefited a lot from this program, which enabled us to acquire a lot of skills, for instance, speaking, debating and reading. I believed that my speaking level has increased a lot after the training. Moreover, I learnt how to write a debate speech. For example, the argument of a debate speech can be constituted by four parts which are points, explanations, examples and impacts. Learning those skills, we can enrich the content of our speech.

Participating in this program, we could make friends who were from other schools. We could also learn from one another. Last but not least, my confidence boosted through the training as we were asked to give speeches in front of the students from other schools.

In spite of the level of difficulty, this debating workshop was definitely practical and beneficial for not only debaters, but also to students who aim to achieve higher English proficiency.
