Dr. Connie Wong visited us on 18th December, 2009. She came to share her life experience with our students. It was an inspiring talk. Dr. Wong had gone through a challenging life as she has a congenital condition having been born with only three full fingers and having to undergo a series of operations throughout her childhood. There was time when she wanted to hide behind others because she was different. However her life changed when she became a Christian while in secondary school. She found her dreams at that time too. One of these dreams was to play the piano. Her passion for playing grew stronger and that led her to study music in university. After graduating from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Wong furthered her study of music at the University of California and eventually obtained her M.A. and PhD in ethnomusicology. She now has a successful and satisfying career as a professor of music at CUHK. She said she had had a life of both "challenge and grace". She told us that everyone has a reason to live. She believes that there are many ways to solve a problem and reminded us that we should be hopeful because God has a plan for us. In the end, Dr. Wong sang a song to our students. Dr. Wong's life story is inspiring and encouraging. We should learn from her example to be strong and not give up when difficulties present themselves. Our lives can be rich and meaningful too. |
