The first staff development day for this academic year was held on 24th November. In the morning session, a speech therapist from The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists conducted a workshop on the protection of vocal cords. Following the workshop, some teachers stayed behind to do a vocal test which enabled them to know more about the health of their vocal cords.
The second session was a talk given by a clinical psychologist from the Christian Family Service Centre Health Services. She gave us guidelines on the identification of students with special learning needs and also suggested methods that teachers can use to help them cope with students with special needs. It was a useful talk which gave strategies to enhance our teaching.
In the afternoon, one of our teachers, Ms Sitt, shared what she had learnt in a 120-hour counselling workshop on SEN (Special Educational Needs). She suggested further useful techniques for teaching students of special needs.
The last session of the day was a review of the NSS (New Senior Secondary) preparation work in our school and discussion on further planning for it. Our teacher from the Curriculum Development Team, Ms Tam, gave a brief summary of what preparatory work our school has done so far. Following it, teachers of different departments gathered around to further discuss their subject requirements and arrangements for the NSS.
The Staff Development Day was a fruitful and meaningful day for teachers.
