The speaker of the assembly was Ms. Wei Ya, who teaches Chinese Language and Putonghua at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and who is also an author. She loves reading and writing. Through extensive reading, her interest in both reading and writing has gradually grown. She emphasized that students should choose the books that they are interested in because it can help them keep the habit of reading. They will find it fun to read if they choose the right books. It is also beneficial for students to repeat reading the same book if they really like it. They will discover different things each time they read it.

To benefit more from reading, Ms. Wei provided some tips for students. She suggested that students should make notes when they were reading. They can write down the new words they have learnt, beautiful phrases and sentences, or even great ideas of writers. The notes will become students' treasure for their entire lives.

Ms. Wei also loves writing. She shared with students that starting up by writing diary or letters to friends or relatives was a good introduction to the craft of writing. Her enthusiasm for reading and writing motivates her to make continuous improvement.

Ms. Wei also mentioned that reading can enhance personal growth. Wisdom can be accumulated by knowing the thoughts of different writers, which will lead to a wider all round understanding of ourselves, others and the world around us.
