The Counselling Team organized a presentation to the school on how to build a harmonious family. Ms Wong, our school's social worker, gave a meaningful talk to students.

Ms Wong talked about the communication problems students might have with their parents. She started by showing a video about two teenagers. One of the teenagers and his parents did not understand each other so they did not get along well. Next, students were asked how much time they spent talking with their parents. ¡§When you think your parents do not understand you, how much do you understand your parents?¡¨ It was a good question to get students thinking about how much time and effort they have put into building a good relationship with their parents.

Then, there was a role play performed by some students. It was about Siu Man who had a problem with her mother because she had failed an exam. After the role play, Ms Wong asked students to help Siu Man solve the problem. Students engaged in the discussion and some gave suggestions. Ms Wong concluded that when students communicated with their parents, they should be understanding and patient. Of course, students were encouraged to talk to their parents.

A meaningful and touching story was then introduced to students. The story was ¡§A tree and a child¡¨. The writer of the story used a tree to represent parents. It told us the love of our parents was endless. The tree was willing to give everything to the child, even sacrificing its life. Yet, the child ignored it and did not spend time with the tree. The story ended by saying, ¡§No matter how busy you are, share some time with parents.¡¨ Students should treasure the love of their parents and should not take it for granted.

The talk concluded with the playing and singing of a pop song ¡§Shall we talk¡¨. To emphasise the song's theme of the importance of communication, Ms WY Sitt also introduced a story to our students.

By the end of this assembly our students had learned some useful communication strategies. We hope all our students can love their parents endlessly and build a harmonious family.
