From 22 May to 26 May, nine F.7 girls of our school, together with 108 students from 12 Hong Kong secondary schools, went to Guangzhou, Nansha and Shunde to explore the economic development of our mother country. The tour was jointly organized by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association and National Education Services Centre, and it included a series of activities such as sightseeing, seminars, group sharing as well as visits to different enterprises, universities, schools and a science museum. While visiting Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co. Ltd (a Sino-Japanese joint venture), Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprises Group (a state-owned enterprise) and Galanz Enterprise Group Company of Guangdong (a private enterprise), the students were given a lot of information about how these enterprises run their business, their products and their efforts in community service. The tours around their factories helped the students understand more about the production of automobiles, steel and microwave ovens.

The organisers also arranged a talk on the current employment situation of Guangzhou, and a seminar about the economic reforms in Mainland China over the past 30 years and her future challenges. The informative talks gave the students a better understanding of China's economic boom as well as the close relationship between politics and economy.

In order to provide opportunities for the students to have a cultural exchange with local students, the trip included sharing sessions with students from Sun Yat-sen University and secondary students from Guohua Memorial Middle School founded by the Chairman of Country Garden Holdings Co. Ltd., one of the leading property developers in PRC. During the visit to the secondary school, which provides free education for its students who all come from poor families, the students were impressed by the talks by its student leaders, the students' motivation in learning and the spacious campus.

Overall, not only did the tour broaden students' horizons and enrich their experience, it also benefited their personal growth since the success stories of the entrepreneurs and the perseverance of the Chinese students inspired them to work harder to achieve their goals.
