Dear Lord,

In the past week, a brave and young fire fighter lost his life in a fire accident. He demonstrated sacrificial service to Hong Kong people. In the Bible it tells us that "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends". We are very thankful that we have such selfless people in our community as fire fighters, police and rescue workers of various kinds, who daily risk their lives to keep us all safe.

People in the caring professions also work with dedication to improve the lives of all in the community. A very experienced and devoted nurse lost her life while crossing the road last week. This is another great loss to Hong Kong. We pray that you will comfort the victims' families and give them courage to overcome their grief.

Lord, we know that our lives are in Your hands. We only have limited time to live on earth. Please give us wisdom in how we spend that time. Help us to make our lives full of gratitude and joy, and let us use our many gifts to serve You and the needy in our community.
