5th February 2007 Dear Lord, Thank you for giving us the grace to enjoy plenty of good food every day. We are fortunate to live in an affluent city like Hong Kong, unlike many people who never get enough food to fill their stomachs. A survey conducted by Greenpeace showed that 87% of the Hong Kong people do not finish all the food in their dishes when they eat in restaurants. It is amazing to know that the food we throw away every week would be enough to feed 2.5 million children for that one week.
Lord, please guide us to have an appropriate attitude towards food and form good habits of not wasting it. We can do this by simply ordering less or packing the leftover food. These are little things that we can do to preserve the beautiful world you created for us. Let us treasure the valuable food you give us and be thankful! The theme for this month is making friends with good people. Help us to share this message of not wasting food with our friends, so that we can contribute some effort to protecting the environment. Friends are important to all of us. Please guide us to choose our friends wisely so that we can have a positive influence on one another.
Lord, hear our prayer!
