The topic for this month is 'Distinguishing between right and wrong'. It is important to know how to distinguish between right and wrong, so we can do the right things and not cause harm to ourselves or put ourselves in danger. There are many cases reported in the news that show that many people have no idea of what is right or wrong. Very sadly, they are cheated or even led to commit crime.
In the School Assembly on 13th December, our guest speaker, Senior Inspector Au Yeung Sze Wan of the Kowloon East Police Station, talked to us on the issue ¡¥Missing Persons in Hong Kong¡¦ and some of the misconceptions related to the issue.
According to police findings, 90% of the missing persons in Hong Kong are female and most of them are under 16 years old. The main reason they go missing is that they like to go out for fun. They usually stay with their friends or loiter on the streets, and become the targets of people with bad intentions.
Senior Inspector Au Yeung pointed out that the first step in learning how to distinguish between right and wrong is to clear all our wrong concepts. Try to know the truth and do the right things.
He strongly advised us to understand our parents and have better communication them. It¡¦s always important to tell family members who we go out with, where we are going and when we will be back. In addition, we need to consider things from our parents¡¦ point of view, have more self-control, use our thinking skills and respond sensibly. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong is a basic principle for everyone, and is part of the foundation for a happy life.
