School Self-evaluation and Development

This workshop was a continuation of the workshop on the Second Staff Development Day. Its aim was to have all the teachers involved in the school's self-evaluation process, and once again, based on the results of the survey findings we used in the last workshop, focused on a few areas of concern, such as discipline, counseling, moral and civic education, extra-curricular activities and careers and further study.

Teachers were divided into groups and discussed the strengths and weaknesses of a particular area with regard to the students' performance both emotionally and socially; effectiveness of support programs and resources for students; co-operation within school and liaison with parents and organizations outside the school.

The discussion was followed by a sharing session in which teachers reported to everyone what they had discussed and made suggestions for further improvements in the future.

All teachers were positive about the school's whole-school approach; programs and activities which offered for the students, and work with parents and organizations outside the school this year. However, it was agreed that students need more help to boost their self-confidence, independence and leadership. In this respect, there should be more recognition for students of their non-academic achievements, such as performance in art and sports, and participation in inter-school activities and social services.
