The second Staff Development Day was held on 13th December 2005 and the theme was “School Self Evaluation”. The teachers reviewed the work done in relation to the school’s major concerns: promoting reading, enhancing students’ sense of morality and improving teaching and learning.
Firstly, the teachers evaluated the morning reading scheme. They found the scheme encouraged students to read and helped them to build up a reading habit. To further strengthen the reading atmosphere in school, teachers gave various suggestions about the reading program.
Then, the teachers discussed the role of the school in enhancing students’ sense of morality. They deduced some weaknesses of students from daily observation, direct experience and school questionnaires. As a result of the discussion, better measures can be taken to help the students in their moral development.
Lastly, teachers in the same subject shared their teaching experience. It was not just peer sharing, but a chance to review teaching strategy. We will adjust our teaching methods and develop new strategies in an effort to enhance students’ performance.Teachers therefore are more confident now in carrying out School-Based Curriculum Development.
